While the Sacramento County Bar Association does not directly deliver any pro bono services to the public, the SCBA Pro Bono Committee actively promotes pro bono work by attorneys in the region.
Legal Services of Northern California
Since 1956, Legal Services of Northern California (LSNC) has provided quality legal services that empower the poor to identify and defeat the causes and effects of poverty. LSNC serves 23 counties in Northern California with office locations in Sacramento, Auburn, Chico, Eureka, Redding, Ukiah, Vallejo and Woodland.

The staff there handles cases for low income clients relating to housing, public benefits, including CalWorks, CalFresh (food stamps), Medi-Cal, General Assistance (GA), Social Security, SSI, unemployment insurance benefits (UIB), and state disability insurance (SDI).
Voluntary Legal Services Program
The Voluntary Legal Services Program, which is jointly sponsored by the Sacramento County Bar Association and LSNC, is the main source of civil law-related pro bono assistance in the Sacramento region. Its mission is “to secure access to justice for people of limited means through the use of volunteers providing pro bono assistance, educating clients to create greater knowledge and self-sufficiency.” VLSP operates several clinics at which clients receive services from volunteer attorneys. Sacramento County Public Law Library
The Sacramento County Public Law Library provides free public access to legal information. It is located at 609 9th Street, Sacramento, CA 95814.
The Library is the 6th largest of California’s 58 county law libraries with more than 65,000 volumes. It is a practice library, focusing on practical materials for attorneys and the public. A team of highly skilled professional, technical, and clerical staff works together to provide appropriate resources to meet the legal research and information needs of library patrons.
Community Legal Services Program at McGeorge
Through its Community Legal Services program, McGeorge School of Law provides services to community members, unable to afford representation from private attorneys, who face legal challenges in the areas of immigration, bankruptcy, elder law and health law. Clients work with law students in a faculty-supervised, law-office setting. The program is located at 3455 Fifth Avenue, Sacramento, CA 95817.
