Job Description and Duties

The Civil Division of the California Attorney General’s Office provides legal
representation to California State agencies, government officials, law enforcement
officers, and employees in state and federal courts. The division handles a broad
range of civil litigation involving cutting-edge legal issues and is committed to
providing the highest quality legal representation to its clients. Attorneys regularly
litigate issues of statewide importance as part of their dedication to public service
and the Attorney General’s mission to serve the People of California. Deputies
are expected to work under time constraints, client and department guidelines,
and to abide by ethical and professional standards. Our highly skilled deputies
provide creative, proactive, and progressive litigation strategies. The division
seeks experienced trial and appellate attorneys with excellent oral and written
advocacy, analytical, and research skills. Deputies are given the opportunity and
responsibility to participate in all aspects of civil litigation, including jury trials and
