Off to the Races!

C. HenningThe Sacramento County Public Law Library Foundation's first fund-raising event in quite a while, Race Ipsa Loquitur: Harness Racing @ CalExpo, was a big hit. We had more than 90 people attend. The ticket price included the Turf Club buffet and private seating area with our own wagering window. A race was named after our organization, and a group photo was taken in the winner's circle. We hope to repeat this event again next year!

The annual meeting of the American Association of Law Libraries is always an energizing experience for those who attend. This year, the meeting was held in San Antonio, Texas, from July 17 to 20. This is one of the most comprehensive meetings where we learn about new legal information products available to the legal profession, and where we can give direct input regarding enhancements we would like to have available in future versions from vendors.

Every year at least one library board member attends this meeting. This year we had two: Judge Renard Shepard and Board President W. Austin Cooper. They enjoy attending this annual meeting because it gives them a better understanding of the legal information business. We are fortunate to be considered one of the premier public law libraries in the country, and I attribute that to a committed board of trustees and a supportive legal community. Also, law librarians are a lot of fun, and we have a good time!
