Federal Bar Association (FBA) members have had a busy summer. In June, the Sacramento Chapter hosted a reception celebrating the completion of Ninth Circuit Judge Connie Callahan's Sacramento Chambers. All FBA members were invited. Over 100 people attended the event, including the Circuit's Chief Judge Mary Schroeder, fellow Ninth Circuit Judge Carlos Bea, Judge Callahan's neighbors at the Eastern District and former colleagues from the Third District Court of Appeal. The event was held in Judge Callahan's beautiful chambers overlooking the Sacramento River.
In July, a rededication ceremony was held for the Robert T. Matsui United States Courthouse. Speakers included Chief Judge David Levi, Senator Barbara Boxer, Representatives John Doolittle, Mike Thompson and Doris Matsui, Brian Matsui and Mayor Heather Fargo. The event was attended by friends of the late Congressman, community leaders, members of the federal and state bench, lawyers and others. The dedication ceremony was held outside the courthouse and the Chapter sponsored a reception in the court's rotunda afterward. Later in July, the Chapter held a "Side Bar" event with Judge William Shubb at Raley Field. FBA members were treated to baseball fare and a stadium tour, which included a rare visit to the River Cats' locker room. The event concluded with and a lively discussion on the topic of baseball and the law lead by Judge Shubb.
In August, the Chapter held its annual Supreme Court Year in Review Luncheon. Over 130 people filled the Hyatt's Capitol View Room for a recap of the Supreme Court's last term as well as a look at the term ahead by Professors Alan Brownstein of UC Davis School of Law and Clark Kelso of McGeorge School of Law.
