Cotchett To Address FBA Annual Dinner

Joseph W. Cotchett, considered one of the nation's leading trial lawyers, will address the annual dinner meeting of the Sacramento Chapter of the Federal Bar Association on November 20, 2002.

During his 35-year legal career, Cotchett has tried more than 100 cases, many of them high-profile actions. He served as the lead trial lawyer for the 23,000 plaintiffs in the Lincoln Savings Loan Association/American Continental Corp. litigation. He won one of the largest jury verdicts in history in that litigation, $3.3 billion, a figure later reduced to $1.75 billion. In April 2000, Cotchett served as chief trial counsel for Consumers Union of America, successfully defending the nonprofit organization against a disparagement claim by Isuzu Motors of Japan.

In addition to representing clients, Cotchett has authored numerous law review articles as well as books on evidence and other subjects. Among his nonlegal activities, he serves as a member of the California State Parks and Recreation Commission and as a member of the Army War College Foundation.

The FBA dinner will be held at the Firehouse Restaurant in Old Sacramento at a time to be announced. To make reservations or for more information, please call Debbie Anderson at Downey, Brand, Seymour & Rohwer at (916) 441-0131.
