Panel Discusses Civil Liberties in Wartime

How times of war effect our civil liberties was the subject of a luncheon panel in February sponsored by Operation Protect and Defend.

McGeorge Law School Dean Elizabeth Rindskopf Parker, UC Davis King Hall Law School Dean Rex Pershbacher and United States Attorney for the Eastern District McGregor Scott shared their perspectives on how war on terrorism has impacted the exercise of civil liberties, both presently and historically.

The panel discussion was one of three parts of this year's program. Subsequently, teams of lawyers and judges visited local high schools to conduct a dialogue regarding constitutional issues related to the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II. An essay contest on this subject was also sponsored as part of the program.
