Federal Nuts & Bolts Seminar Scheduled
by Nicole De Santis

Nicole De SantisIn this month's column, I'll get right to the point. We have a great seminar coming up that we would like all lawyers, young and not so young, to attend. The Barristers Club of Sacramento, in conjunction with the Federal Bar Association, is pleased to present the annual Federal Nuts & Bolts seminar on Thursday, May 24, 2001. The seminar will be held at the United States District Courthouse for the Eastern District, located at 501 I Street in downtown Sacramento. It will begin at 4:00 p.m. and conclude at 6:00 p.m. Cost is $25.00 payable to the Sacramento Barristers Club.

As in previous years, extensive written materials (and computer disks containing the Eastern District's local rules) will be provided, as well as catered hor d'oeuvres and wine. The first portion of the seminar will focus on federal civil practice, and the second portion will focus on bankruptcy law practice. The seminar is designed to give new attorneys an understanding of the different rules and customs that must be followed in federal, as opposed to state, court. However, in light of the recent revisions to the federal rules of civil procedure and evidence, this year's seminar may be helpful to experienced practitioners, as well as new attorneys. Anticipated speakers include the Honorable William B. Shubb, chief judge of United States District Court (Eastern District); the Honorable Gregory G. Hollows, chief magistrate judge; the Honorable Michael S. McManus, judge, United States Bankruptcy Court; Keith Holland, operations manager for the office of the court clerk of the Eastern District; Bruce Emard, Esq., experienced bankruptcy law practitioner; Matthew Jacobs, Esq. president of the Federal Bar Association; and Louis J. Anapolsky, Esq., of Knox, Lemmon & Anapolsky, LLP.

Barristers' Board Member Dylan W. Wiseman will moderate the event. To RSVP, please call Mr. Wiseman at (916) 498 9911 for more information.
