Sacramento Attorneys Fight with Pride for Individual Rights

Joan Stone

This month our cover is graced by our radiant Humanitarian of the Year, Emily E. Vasquez. Your editor reserved for herself the pleasure and privilege of writing the article on this outstanding lawyer and humanitarian. As you will see, Emily is a very special and highly respected member of our community who is truly deserving of the award.

Our theme this month is Law and Technology. We hope that you enjoy the fascinating articles on the Sacramento Valley Hi-Tech Crimes Task Force and its members. We owe a special thanks to Detective Mike Menz and his twin brother Mark. We also think that you will be intrigued and stimulated by all that is going on with SLUG and its members. I certainly plan on attending their meetings so as not to miss out on all of the great educational opportunities. A special thank you is due to Heather Cline Hoganson for spearheading the effort to put together those articles. We also thank Judge Ron Robie for keeping us up-to-date with what is going on at the Sacramento Superior Court and Shirley David for her helpful and insightful library article.

I frequently remind you that this magazine is expensive to produce. We could not go to press without the financial help of our advertisers. I want to specially thank all of them and to remind you, our readers, of a simple fact of life. Business owners advertise to attract business. They stop advertising if no business results. Please consider our advertisers when you need any of the services offered. Let them know you saw them here.

The policy board is very excited by the successful upload of our last few issues on the SCBA website. Look for us at www.sacbar.org. The magazine looks great and you can easily search for specific articles. But don't be alarmed! This does not mean the end of the hard copy magazine. We are firmly committed to this important member benefit. If you are seeing this magazine on your colleague's desk or in the firm law library and not receiving it yourself that means you are not an SCBA member. Join today and you will receive your own copy along with all the other great benefits of bar membership. We'd love to see you here!
