The Barristers' Club of Sacramento is designed to promote fellowship among new members of the Bar, broaden their view of the legal profession, and to encourage interest among its members in the problems and improvement of the legal profession and the community. The Barristers' Club hosts numerous social and educational events focused specifically for newer attorneys. If you are both a member of the Sacramento County Bar Association, and either under the age of 36 or have practiced law for less than five years, you are already a member. All you have to do is provide your email address to the Barristers' Membership Chair, Shane Singh, at ssingh@kringandchung.com, and you will receive email notifications of seminars and social events.
Throughout the year the Barristers' Club offers MCLE courses presented by local judges and practitioners, aimed at educating new attorneys. In January, the Barristers' Club sponsored its annual Bridging the Gap Seminar for new admittees to the Bar. Speakers included Judge Judy Holzer Hersher, Judge Raymond M. Cadei, Judge Kimberly J. Mueller, and Judge James M. Mize, along with many distinguished local practitioners. In February, the Barristers' held its annual Supreme Court Reception at the Sutter Club in honor of the Justices of the California Supreme Court. The keynote speaker for the Reception was Richard W. Painter, Associate Counsel to the President in the White House Counsel's Office in charge of ethical issues and overseeing appointments. On March 22, 2006, the Barristers' will host a deposition seminar presented by Steve Goff, of McDonough Holland and Allen, and Joe Genshlea, of Weintraub Genshlea Chediak. The annual Federal Nuts & Bolts Seminar will be held in June, and a sem- inar on Motions for Summary Judgment will be held in August.
The Barristers' Club also provides new attorneys the opportunity to network with other attorneys at social events. January's Judicial Reception allowed new attorneys the chance to meet for a drink with members of the local judiciary. In July, the Barristers' Club hosts a Summer Associate Reception, which allows summer associates to meet with local attorneys and judges. In addition to networking opportunities, the Barristers' Club provides new attorneys a chance to spend time with their peers in fun social settings such as the Riverside Clubhouse and MoMo's ounge.
