Martin Luther King Dinner
by Debra Roerts Ries, WLS President

On Saturday, January 11, 2003, the Sacramento legal community celebrated the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at the Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Dinner at the Sacramento Convention Center. The theme of the dinner was "The Dream Continues." The dinner memorialized the courage and determination of Jackie Robinson and Branch Rickey, the general manager of the Brooklyn Dodgers and a lawyer, in breaking baseball's color barrier. Congressman John Lewis served as the dinner's keynote speaker. The Sacramento River Cats retired Jackie Robinson's number at the event.
