Martin
Luther King Dinner

On
Saturday, January 11, 2003, the Sacramento legal community celebrated
the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at the Annual Martin
Luther King, Jr. Celebration Dinner at the Sacramento Convention
Center. The theme of the dinner was "The Dream Continues."
The dinner memorialized the courage and determination of Jackie
Robinson and Branch Rickey, the general manager of the Brooklyn
Dodgers and a lawyer, in breaking baseball's color barrier. Congressman
John Lewis served as the dinner's keynote speaker. The Sacramento
River Cats retired Jackie Robinson's number at the event.

examined the jersey signifying the retirement of Robinson's
number.
