Library To Celebrate National Library Week
By Shirley H. David, Sacramento County Public Law
Librarian
April
6 through 12 is National Library Week. Libraries throughout the
country plan special events to highlight their services and bring
in new customers. The American Association of Law Libraries encourages
member libraries to participate in a nationwide law library teach-in.
Sacramento County Public Law Library always does its part to
enter into the activities.
This
year we are adding to our activities a book signing by a local
author who is also a member of our legal community, Geoffrey
Wong. On Monday, April 7 from noon to 1:30 p.m., Wong will
discuss
his novels, A Golden State of Mind and its forthcoming sequel,
Golden Daze.
On
Friday, April 11, the library will offer two classes. From
noon to 1:30 p.m. learn more about searching Lexis/Nexis public
records by attending the “Seminar on Factual Discovery
and Due Diligence.” Lunch will be provided, and a raffle
will be held for fabulous prizes. Attendees will receive 1.5
MCLE credits. At 2:00 p.m. that same day, the library will offer “Westlaw
Research Tips and Techniques.” This seminar will not
include lunch, but it will include a raffle for fabulous
prizes and 1
hour of MCLE credit.
During
National Library Week you will have the opportunity to have
up to $5.00 of your overdue book fines waived and
donate to a worthy cause. For each canned goods item you
bring to
the
library for the Food Bank you will waive $1.00 of any accrued
library fines. Sign up for the National Library Week classes
and check out the updated schedule of activities at www.saclaw.lib.ca.us or call us at 874-6011.
