Last
month, I wrote about needing speakers
for the Barristers Club, and I received a supportive response
from experienced practitioners, judges and justices. In this day
of the billable hour and bottom line, it is commendable that many
of you still value taking the time to counsel new attorneys, and
help bring out the best in them. Because of your responses, the
Barristers Club looks forward to hosting some different programs
this year to help Barristers improve their skills and navigate
their way to career satisfaction. For those of you who responded
and generously volunteered your time and expertise - thank you!
This month I write with a different
request, but one that doesn't fall far from last month's tree.
On the last Tuesday of every month, on the second page of the
Daily Recorder newspaper, the Barristers Club features
its news and upcoming events in the "Barristers Bulletin".
Part of the Barristers Bulletin includes a "Barrister of
the Month" column to recognize those new attorneys who are
making a particularly impressive contribution to the practice
of law. The barrister's picture and summary of his/her background
is included, as well as a description of what they do. The column
is not only helpful for the barrister who is honored, but also
to other young (and not so young) attorneys, who get a chance
to see the many different kinds of careers our new attorneys are
pursuing today, and their achievements in them.
Do you have a hardworking associate
at your firm who deserves praise for a job well done? Then nominate
her/him to be Barrister of the Month! Do you know of a young attorney
who should be commended for taking pro bono cases, or an attorney
who is practicing in a specific, interesting area of the law?
Please let us know. The Barristers Club is here to welcome and
recognize new attorneys, but we need your help in finding them.
If you have a nomination for Barrister
of the Month, please contact Nicole De Santis, Barristers Club
vice president of programs, at 218-3628, or ndesantis@firstam.com.
A barrister is any attorney who has been practicing for five years
or less OR any attorney who is under the age of 36. I look forward
to hearing from you.
