| On May 17th, the Judicial Council held a symposium at the Sacramento Convention Center on the fiftieth anniversary of the
United States Supreme Court’s decision in Brown v. Board of Education, which outlawed racial segregation in schools. The panel
discussions at the symposium, entitled “Brown v. Board of Education: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow,” looked at the role of lawyers in the historic
decision, analyzed the decision’s impact on contemporary America, and considered the future legacy of the decision. Third District Court of
Appeal Justice George Nicholson, McGeorge Professor Clark Kelso, and
Sacramento County Bar Association public programs coordinator Vince
Miles gave a multimedia presentation about the decision. California
Supreme Court Chief Justice Ronald M. George and National Public
Radio and Fox News Correspondent Juan Williams were the luncheon
speakers for the symposium. After the symposium, attendees were invited
to a reception sponsored by the SCBA.
