Sacramento County Law Library News
By Shirley H. David, Sacramento County Public Law Librarian

Shirley DavidAfter the fire at the downtown courthouse in February, the attorneys' convenience center was closed so court staff members who were displaced while new carpet was installed in their work areas could temporarily work there. It is open again and available as a quiet spot to read a case or code section on-line, connect your pc to work on a document or just collect your thoughts before your next appearance. The court provides the space and the Sacramento County Public Law Library provides the research computer and a subscription to Loislaw(r). The attorneys' convenience center is located in room 402. Get the code for the door at the court information desk on the first floor.

If you haven't visited Sacramento County's website lately, I highly urge you to do so. The county website address is http://www.saccounty.net. From the Tax Collection and Licensing page you can find property tax information by entering a parcel number, and you can even pay property taxes by credit card on-line. From the Planning and Community Development Department page, you can find the County Zoning Code and the County's general plan and email a nuisance complaint. The Public Works Agency purchasing section lists bids and contracts and includes information about the bids.

The county code is now available on-line. Link from the County Counsel page on the county's site or go directly to: http://municipalcodes.lexisnexis.com/codes/sacramento. What is nice about the new on-line code is that the new ordinances that affect the code are regularly integrated into the code and those the newer ordinances are linked from the code pages.

At Sacramento County Public Law Library's own website you will find the library's web catalog, the schedule of MCLE classes held at the library's training center, and links to classes sponsored by the library and accessible on the online WestLegalEdcenter. Sacramento County Bar Association members benefit pricing for LexisNexis products including short term research flat rates are also available from the library's website.
