Barristers Keep Active with Events

The Barristers' Club of Sacramento hosted its annual Federal Nuts & Bolts: An Introduction to Federal Practice in the Eastern District of California on September 21 in the Ceremonial Courtroom of the Federal Courthouse. Judges and local practitioners discussed the fundamentals of federal practice in the Eastern District, including filing requirements and deadlines, the roles of magistrate judges, and rules and practices specific to the Eastern District. Speakers included the Honorable William B. Shubb, United States District Court Judge (Eastern District); the Honorable Kimberly J. Mueller, United States Magistrate Judge (Eastern District), Keith Holland, Operations Manager for the Court Clerk's office and veteran federal litigator Terence Cassidy, who regularly practices in United States District Court (Northern and Eastern District) and prevailed before the United States Supreme Court in two notable cases. The Barristers wish to thank all of the panelists for their participation and continued support of the Barristers' Club. In addition, thanks to Barristers' Club Board Members Stacey Melville and Shane Singh for organizing this event.

Networking Event Draws Barristers to Riverside Clubhouse

On October 5, the Sacramento Barristers' Club hosted their annual Late Night with the Barristers. Barristers gathered for networking, live music, appetizers and drinks at Riverside Clubhouse on Riverside Blvd. The event provided a wonderful opportunity for club members to meet one another and reconnect in a lively and entertaining setting. The Barristers were joined by members of the McGeorge Junior Barristers Club, a networking and social organization led by President Rodney Rusca.

Barristers Meet for Networking and Voting

Members of the Sacramento Barristers' Club met on Thursday, November 16th at the Pine Cove to socialize and elect the Barristers' Club Officers for the 2007 term. The election results were as follows:

Barristers' Club of Sacramento Upcoming Events

January 20, 2007, 8:30 AM - 2:30 PM: Bridging the Gap—a New Lawyer Orientation Program sponsored by the Barristers' Club of Sacramento and The Daily Recorder. This event will take place at the Sacramento County Superior Court and will feature speakers and panelists on many areas of interest to newly admitted attorneys. January 30, 2007, 12:00 PM - 1:30 PM: Supreme Court Luncheon sponsored by the Sacramento Barristers' Club and the Sacramento County Bar Association. This annual gala event will welcome the justices of the California Supreme Court for a luncheon at the Sutter Club. We are pleased to announce that this year's keynote speaker will be Judge Rodney S. Melville of Santa Barbara, who recently garnered public attention for presiding over the Michael Jackson child abuse case. For ticket information, please contact Ashley West at awest@weintraub.com.

January (date and time TBA): Ethics Seminar. The MCLE compliance deadline for Group 1 (last names A-G) is just around the corner on February 1. If you are still trying to come up with that ethics credit or would like to get a jump on a later deadline, please attend the Barristers' annual Ethics Seminar to be held in January 2007. Any person who is a member of the Sacramento County Bar Association is automatically a Barrister if they are under 36 years of age or have been in practice five years or less, whichever is later. In addition to sponsoring networking and social events, the Sacramento Barristers' Club offers seminars for MCLE credit addressing areas of interest to attorneys in their first several years of practice.
