And the Winner Is----Ann Taylor Schwing!
by Pat Hart Jorgensen

Pat JorgensenAnn Taylor Schwing, Of Counsel to the law firm of McDonough, Holland & Allen, was the winner of the first annual "Instant Wine Cellar" raffle conducted by the Sacramento Law Foundation. The drawing took place on June 7, 2001 at the Bench Bar reception honoring Presiding Judge Richard K. Park as judge of the year. The instant wine cellar consisted of 60 bottles, donated by members and friends of the Sacramento County Bar Association. Ann, who was raised in the Napa Valley and is no stranger to fine wines, was delighted with the collection, noting that all of the wines are rated from good to excellent. In her estimation, the wines that comprise her new cellar are on par with many of those found in the cellars of Napa Valley.

Each bottle in the wine cellar contains a special label signifying the donor of that wine. As Ann and her husband Charlie enjoy the fine wines they will be reminded of the contributions, in addition to a generous one from an anonymous source, made by the following law firms and individuals: Washburn, Briscoe & McCarthy, Riegels Campos, & Kenyon; Livingston & Mattesich; Murphy, Austin, Adams & Schoenfeld; McDonough, Holland & Allen; Tac Craven; Joanna R. Mendoza; Kathleen Finnerty; Joan Stone; Pat Jorgensen; Barbara Yonemura; Victoria Jacobs; and themselves, Ann and Charlie Schwing.

This year's "Instant Wine Cellar" raffle netted $4, 540 for the Sacramento Law Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit California corporation that serves as the charitable arm of the Sacramento County Bar Association. The Foundation is dedicated to supporting programs that improve the administration of justice, enhance public confidence in the legal profession, cultivate understanding of, and respect for the rule of law, and support law-related public services. In furtherance of these objectives, the Foundation provides financial support for non-profit organizations that have a significant relationship to the Sacramento community, contribute to the quality and accessibility of justice, and that honor the integrity of the legal profession.

Recent recipients of the Foundation's donations include the Center for Youth Citizenship (formerly the CRLE Center) Moot Court Competition, Constitutional Rights and Foundation Clinic for High School Students Scholarship Program; Hiram Johnson High School Police Department Law Academy Scholarship Program; Volunteers in Parole, Sacramento Mediation Center, Sacramento Regional Law Center, Voluntary Legal Services Program, Legal Services of Northern California, Asian Resource Center, Probate Pro Bono Clinic, Unity Bar Scholarship Program, Legal Auxiliary of Sacramento; and Elk Grove High School's Mock Trial Championship Team.
