Administrative Law
Purpose Brings public and private lawyers together to consider significant issues in this growing field.

There are approximately 100 members of the Administrative Law Section, both private practitioners and state or local government attorneys, who practice in what is commonly referred to as a “niche” area of law.

Meetings Meets most months (fourth Wednesday luncheons for 2004) to discuss topics of interest to members and listen to MCLE-approved presentations. Past presentations have included new case law affecting administrative law (such as Zuckerman), regulations and the process of enacting them, administrative hearings (state, federal, telephonic), administrative mandamus, updates on particular agencies or state agencies in general, and public records act updates. If you or someone you know is interested in making a presentation at one of our section meetings, please contact our Vice Chair.

Luncheons Luncheons are held at the Firehouse, 1112 Second Street, Old Sacramento. Section members receive advance postcard notices and lunch discounts.

Alternative Dispute Resolution
Purpose Brings together arbitrators and mediators to consider, study, discuss and review all significant issues in this new field.

Constitutional Law and Civil Rights
Purpose The Constitutional Law & Civil Rights Section provides opportunities for the discussion and dissemination of developments in the related fields of Constitutional Law and Civil Rights; provides opportunities to earn MCLE credits by attending lectures, discussions, and other events concerning Constitutional Law and Civil Rights; and, encourages interest in Constitutional Law and Civil Rights in the local professional and social community.

Meetings The Section hosts MCLE-accredited lunch meetings at the Ultra Lounge (1116 15th Street) every other month. The Section officers meet at least once every six weeks. Four times a year, officer meetings are open to all Section members and attendees are encouraged to seek each others input on any Constitutional Law and/or Civil Rights issues on which they are working or in which they are interested.
Special Events / Activities

In addition to luncheon events, the Section also hosts an annual Distinguished Speaker dinner event in the Fall. Stay tuned to learn more about this exciting MCLE-accredited event.

The Section holds officer elections at a special social meeting in November. Any attorney wishing to participate in Section meetings and activities can do so by contacting Carrie Frederickson and joining our Section. We are actively looking for Section officers and look forward to your participation.



Environmental Law
Purpose Offers educational opportunities regarding various fields in environmental law, social and intellectual interaction and legislative review. The Environmental Law Section is one of the most active sections of the Sacramento County Bar Association. The Section has more than 150 members, including both private practice attorneys and public-sector lawyers.

Meetings Meets at noon on the first Tuesday of every month at Sofia Restaurant, at the corner of 11th and H St., in Downtown Sacramento.
Special Events / Activities The Section hosts monthly lunch meetings on a wide range of topics relevant to environmental practitioners, including environmental criminal law, regulatory and master planning issues, toxicology, environmental legislation updates, drinking water, air quality, environmental forensics, water quality, smart growth, and flood control. Speakers include leading environmental law practitioners and environmental scientists, as well as state and local regulators and legislators. MCLE credit has been given for each meeting. Any attorney wishing to participate in Section meetings and activities can do so by calling any of the above officers and joining our section. We look forward to your participation.

Meetings Holds quarterly luncheon meetings for its members and interested persons. The luncheons feature presenters from the Legislature, administrative agencies, and health-care-related associations such as the California Medical Association and the Medical Board of California. Luncheon meetings are held at the Firehouse Restaurant in Old Sacramento.

Intellectual Property Law
Purpose Provides a forum to discuss procedural and substantive law issues in the field.

The Intellectual Property Section ("IP Section") was originally formed as an independent organization called the Sacramento Intellectual Property Law Association in 1989 by Sacramento intellectual property practitioners. In 1996, it became affiliated with the Sacramento County Bar and renamed itself the IP Section. The IP Section is dedicated to promoting interest in and awareness of substantive and procedural issues in the field of patents, copyrights, trademarks, trade secrets, and other areas of intellectual property law.
The Intellectual Property Section is governed by a seven member board elected by the entire membership. The board appoints the officers for the year. The following represents the current officers and board members for the section.

Meetings Hosts bimonthly luncheons for its members and other interested persons. The luncheons feature regionally and nationally known speakers with expertise in various aspects of intellectual property, including: trademark, copyright, patents, trade secrets and unfair competition, and new challenges posed by the Internet. Luncheons last 1 hour and 15 minutes and are held 6 times a year. Luncheons are held at the Sacramento Capitol Club at 400 Capitol Mall, sixth floor, with parking partially discounted. The first luncheon of the year features a report on the prior year's federal and state legislative developments.
Special Events / Activities The Program Committee, chaired by member John Mounier, meets regularly to discuss and organize the bimonthly luncheon program.

Recently, the IP Section has established a Legislative Committee, chaired by board member Gary Bradus, which will review recent legislative developments.

Special Events / Activities Section acts as a liaison between the tax practicing community of Sacramento and other tax organizations such as the Internal Revenue Service, the Franchise Tax Board, the State Board of Equalization, the Taxation Section of the State Bar of California, accountants and other professionals involved in the tax related fields.
